// EPICENTRE - THE 2K17 MiX
My annual end of year answer to the Ministry of Sound compilation, featuring my favourite tracks of the year. This set is one of my favourites of recent years, crammed with tracks from the likes of Mark Knight, Joey Negro, Kolsch, BT, Hybrid, Oliver Smith, Eric Prydz, Sunscreem and many more. Scattered across the mix is original Epicentre content, including tracks from this year’s album Stargazer, plus subtle tributes to the likes of Bowie, Prince, Gene Wilder, Carrie Fisher, nods to those epic Curiosity events, as well as celebrating Hull as the UK City of Culture for 2017.
Here we go then! Happy New Year!!

Facebook pulled my original 2 hour live stream down, so I dusted myself off and recorded the playlist again!! Streamed it again live and the video feed appears to have stayed up this time!!
Watch it here: https://www.facebook.com/epicentre/videos/10154523052591834
Some really good Old Skool belters, plus some exclusive brand new Golden Ticket remixes by myself which have never been played anywhere before.
// EPICENTRE - A CURIOUS AFTERPARTY
// EPICENTRE - THE 2K16 MiX
I managed to throw in a sample of Guru Josh's Infinity as a tribute to his passing yesterday, along with some unsung heroes that I wanted to feature for the 20 year celebrations of Epicentre material. New Order, Hybrid, Kasabian and the Star Wars soundtrack features here and there, along with the epic Ibiza Proms with Pete Tong and the London Heritage Orchestra. Loved putting this together and a nice way to round off the year into the next one.
Just press play...
// THE 20/20 MIX, broadcast on Summertime Radio with Mark Biggus, 07/07/2015
Back in 1995 I started throwing music together on my Commodore Amiga, with an 8 bit sound sampler, 4 channels of sound and a MIDI enabled keyboard. Hard to think how elitist making music was back then, and how that all really did seem cutting edge.
My first demo was called 'Earthquake in Eden' and I needed a name. 'Epicentre' was an almost instant choice and has stuck with my music ever since. 20 years...
There are lots of nostalgic tips of the hat to tracks, some new bootlegs and material right up to the present day. Have a listen and raise a hand and a glass to passing time, passing beats and the continued pulse forwards.
We continue, much love...

// EPICENTRE - THE HULL 10K MOTIVATIONAL MIX

The soundtrack to my recent Hull 10k run. It starts off with ambient synths and strings, then builds to a crescendo of movie samples, motivational speeches, life lessons and epic music anthems to drive you to the finish line. Let's go...

12 months worth of tracks, remixes and exclusives. 122 - 131 bpm, several movie samples and other goodies. Here's to an exciting 12 months....
// epicentre - the beautiful game

Basically all of the big football anthems are in, sprinkled with some atmospheric crowd chants, classic commentary and some of my own remixes and bootleg tracks to get you in the mood for chanting England on in Brazil. I’ve included Rik Mayall’s ‘Noble England’ (although I urge you to buy it yourself like I did!) and my Electro Adjust remix of ‘World In Motion’. Even now, after listening to this compilation in all its versions over 16 years, it still gives me goosebumps.

The customary end of year mix - this time championing as much Hull music from the new City of Culture as possible. As well as original Epicentre material from this year and new tracks which will feature on next year's album, Aftershocks, a whole array of local artists have been involved. I salute each of you :-)

This is the first end-of-year mixset I've done in 3 years. Includes a few of the tracks from Supernova, but much more than that. Rise Again by The Rainband makes a cameo, Carl Shawn's epic remix of Snow Patrol's Fallen Empires plus my cover of one of their tracks, bootleg mashups involving Foo Fighters and Red Carpet, film samples from Rocky and Bill Hicks, plus other randoms. The mix is deliberately in two parts, stopping halfway though and rebooting with a phenomenal clusterfunk of messed up bass from BT. The mix finishes off with Underworld's anthem from the Olympics of London 2012.
Reborn, Relived, New Me. See you on the other side.

Legendary club culture magazine Mixmag always used to ask DJs in their regular back-page interviews the question "you've died and gone to heaven, God's on the decks - what's he playing?" To me, he'd be playing this. This has been a pet project of mine for the last 6 years, adding the odd track here, the odd sample there. Originally, it was never supposed to see the light of day and was just a nostalgic laugh for my mate Brett, to put together our favourite tracks from some hazy nights listening to Pete Tong and the Essential Mixes, clubbing at Deja Vu in the mid-90s or simply driving round in our dad's cars with the windows down. I also have some amazing old skool megamix CDs from back in the day (Hit the Decks and especially the Groovy Ghetto 'All The Rage' Megamix). My aim was to beat 44 tracks on the 'All The Rage' mix – I passed that after 30 minutes. Slowly, this has grown into a monster. It would be impossible to cram every tune in there (I remembered 3 more after I'd finished it), but in places it feels that way. The mix actually ages as it goes along. Skip the first 12 minutes if you want as this is the early stuff recorded 6 years ago now and sounds just like any other mixset to begin with. The really meaty, manic treats come later on. Multiple tracks, accappellas, loops, samples and madness running straight from one track to the next and back again- by the end I'm actually remixing rather than playing tunes. Those that I've played this to over the years have urged me to finish this off (“you CAN'T leave it there!”), so I'm really pleased to have locked it down. Even after all these years it still sends goosebumps down my spine. So many quality moments, quality memories.... So here we are. Me and Brett are 16 again (give us a call mate...).

// Synthesis - Mix II (November 1996)

Out of all the mixtapes I ever did, this one is still my favourite. Groundbreaking for me in so many ways, messing with genres and experimenting with plugins and samples. The intro is a nod to Star Wars, then my mates, then we're off. The first track is a mash up and mixed in key with elements of The Stone Roses, which back then was no mean feat. After a wander across several tracks, we arrive at my very very first Epicentre track - Earthquake in Eden - which is where the names comes from. Some really amazing songs follow on from that in a race to the end of 'Side A'.
'Side B' starts with Pearl's Girl by Underworld, but with a twist - I'm actually playing two of the same vinyl back to back to create the flange effect in real time. Then we go on for more of the same madness that we did with 'Side A'. I never played a Radio 1 Essential Mix, but if I did I would play this.
So many memories packed into one mixtape and that's what music for me is all about really. Please press play and listen if you can. 18 years gone in a flash....

// 21 Live - Recorded 18-05-1996

Rediscovered for the first time in 18 years and the first of my old mixtapes to be converted. Recorded live at my 21st bday bash before heading into town later and Oasis nightclub for more of the same. I still have all these vinyls. 1996 anyone?
Listening back for the first time I'd forgotten about the intro segment, an early attempt at putting some synths and fx together, along with samples of Pete Tong wishing me Happy Birthday and Kev Russell arranging a night out. I remember getting several of the tracks played on this mix from Hard to Find Records that we're only delivered on the morning itself, so I was buzzing playing them all for the first time. Remember when songs would arrive in the POST...? Anyway, we're in touching distance of another milestone birthday, but that's for another time.
