Over on Summer Time Radio, Auto DJ has left the building and let the Epicentre circus roll into town for one night only, with other very special guests:
An exclusive Epicentre mixset was broadcast Saturday 29th March on Miami music station RADIO DANZ (http://www.radiodanz.com/index.php) to coincide with the MIAMI WINTER MUSIC CONFERENCE.
As well as some hand-picked cuts of the finest in Electro House, this mixset includes a series of exclusive Epicentre remixes. Amongst these is a collaboration with Radio Danz DJ and Producer JOEL NORTH on a remix for the indie band Lovespirals, a few exclusives from UK DJ PHIL URRY of the Shine Boys, and the world premiere of an Epicentre remix of 'Temperamental' by Everything But The Girl. If this isn't enough, the mix also kicks off with the first in the series of GOLDEN TICKET remixes - which rework some of the classic dance tracks from the last 15 years of anthems. Check out the Epicentre mix archive (or the posted link below) to hear for yourself....
"Been browsing through this website for the last 2 weeks and I must say although I've found a few nice mixes your 2K6 mix is my fav so far. Will give the next 2 a listen after and hoping for more goodies. Is 2K7 on the horizon?? Big fan, keep up the good work. " - TB304

Welcome to the Epicentre
Matt Barker first started cutting up tracks and mixes at the ripe old age of six, chopping up segments of music, stuttering and looping what could loosely be called 'samples' using nothing more than a couple of conventional tape recorders and the family record player. About the same time, he got his first keyboard from Santa. He hated the music lessons his parents made him do, but loved making his own compositions, creating his own synth patch sounds and blending them all together in a unique way. This was way before he (or the rest of the world) even knew what house music was.
With the consumer boom of home computers in the late 1980s, Matt was first exposed to an 8 bit sampler and simple music sequencer called NoiseTracker on the Commodore Amiga. Coincidentally, by the early Nineties the underground rave scene was burgeoning, and aloof artists such as SL2 and Altern-8 proved that you didn't need to have a famous face and or a music mogul behind you to make accessible music. By the mid-Nineties, Matt had bought a couple of keyboards and progressed onto MIDI production. He also bought his first turntables and, surprisingly, the music theory he hated so much meant he already knew how to beat-match and align harmonics. Matt got himself a DJ residency in Hull and this was getting good....
Artists such as BT and Way Out West, blending breaks, trance and house elements with traditional arrangments, greatly inspired Matt, In 1996, he recorded a series of mixsets, under the banner of 'Synthesis'. One of these showcased his debut demo track, 'Earthquake in Eden', and he needed a suitable psuedonym to use. He chose Epicentre, and the rest is history.
Initially focussing on his own material, Matt has since worked on a series of remixes for local bands, most notably Mardrae and Arcade, whilst collaborating with likeminded DJs and producers such as Phil Urry of the Shine Boys in the UK and Joel North of Miami's Radio Danz.
The last two years have seen a renaissance in Epicentre productions. He has garnered interest from as far away as Asia and North America, moved into film-making and is an avid digital artist. Recently, Epicentre mixsets have been broadcast on the Yorkshire-based music station Summer Time Radio. The Gulf Stream Electro Mix, recorded for Radio Danz in Miami, fused a selection of quality Electro tracks with a multitude of Epicentre compositions, most notably the Epicentre remix of 'Best of You' by the Foo Fighters. Farther afield, a series of Epicentre reworkings of classic retro house anthems is due later in 2008, along with some very special mixsets and other goodies.
